Fluvius reminds owners of the obligation to report repairs to solar panels following storm or hail damage

Following the severe thunderstorms of recent days, Fluvius is reminding solar panel owners of the correct steps to take if their installation has been damaged by a storm or hail.

Damage to solar panels often causes a great deal of inconvenience and raises many questions. That is why Fluvius has summarised the key points for customers wishing to have their systems repaired.

Anyone who discovers damage should first contact their insurance broker. Solar panels are usually covered by home or fire insurance. It is important to take and keep photographs of the damage. In some cases, even uninsured storm damage may be eligible for compensation through the disaster fund.

The customer should then contact their installer for a quote and to arrange the repair of the damaged panels. Once the repairs have been carried out, any modifications or replacements to the system must also be correctly reported via Mijn.Fluvius.be.

“Anyone with damage to their solar panels should first have the damage assessed and repaired. But it is just as important that the replacement is subsequently reported correctly. This ensures the system remains in good working order and helps customers avoid additional administrative queries later on,” says Lara Lammens, spokesperson for Fluvius.

Green electricity certificates

Customers with solar panels that entitle them to green energy certificates need to take extra care. Damaged panels may only be replaced with the same or similar panels, and the number of panels must also remain the same. This is necessary because the capacity entitling the customer to green energy certificates must not change.

It is also important to report the replacement correctly via My Fluvius and to gather sufficient evidence of the damage, such as photographs or an expert’s report.

Anyone who fails to comply with these conditions risks having the modification rejected and losing their entitlement to green energy certificates.
