Fluvius reinforces networks in Bruges station neighbourhood
The station area in Bruges is currently undergoing a thorough metamorphosis with the aim of creating a safer and more pleasant environment for its many travellers. Fluvius is taking this opportunity to reinforce the networks in the area. A complex operation in one of the busiest parts of the city.

Some 25,000 people pass Bruges' station square every day. Cars, buses, pedestrians and cyclists constantly cross each other's path there. That is why the city of Bruges opted for a safe redesign of the station area, with a focus on the side towards the city centre. Fluvius plays an important role in this by reinforcing the networks: from high and low voltage lines to medium and low pressure pipes, as well as the public lighting. These interventions ensure that Bruges is prepared for the challenges of the future.
Strong partnerships
The extensive project will be coordinated by Boskalis, a Dutch company that will design and execute the works. Fluvius is working closely with several partners, including AWV, Farys, Wyre, Proximus, De Lijn, NMBS, the police services and the city of Bruges. Cooperation runs smoothly, with weekly site meetings where all progress and challenges are discussed.
Less disruption, more safety
The works around Bruges' busy railway station inevitably entail inconvenience, but Fluvius does everything it can to minimise it. The site is protected with high fences and there are clear evacuation zones. In addition, the grid operator is working closely with De Lijn and the police to ensure traffic runs smoothly and accessibility for traders. Fluvius is also exploring the possibility of carrying out some of the major works at night to reduce inconvenience during busy hours. All night works will be carefully coordinated with the city and police forces.

Site information
There is now an easy way for passers-by to keep up to date with the latest on the works: a QR code on the station square allows them to quickly find all relevant information. The code links to this webpage.
Works on the station area continue unabated, contributing to a stronger and safer future for Bruges residents and visitors to the city. Fluvius remains committed to the successful implementation of this major project and strengthening the networks for tomorrow.
