Fluvius and Sibelga support ORES in large-scale re-commissioning following gas incident in Mons

Fluvius is providing additional technical support to ORES in the re-commissioning of the gas supply in Mons, where around 12,000 households have been without gas since a technical incident last Wednesday. As each home has to be individually reconnected and checked, this is an intensive operation under considerable time pressure. ORES aims to get as many connections back in service by tomorrow.

Following a formal request for help from the Walloon grid operator ORES, Fluvius, together with the Brussels grid operator Sibelga, immediately set to work to speed up the re-commissioning operations. The support consists of reopening installation taps, venting indoor installations and commissioning homes. ORES provides the necessary equipment; the technicians bring their own tools. Fluvius' deployment will concentrate on today, overnight and possibly tomorrow.

"As grid operators, we share the responsibility to provide energy to our customers in a safe and reliable way," said Tom Ceuppens, director of Customer and Grid Operations at Fluvius. "When one of us is faced with a major incident, the other helps without hesitation. We do this out of professionalism, out of solidarity and in the interests of the thousands of families who have been without gas for days. The top priority is to restore them access to heating and hot water as quickly and as safely as possible."

With the joint efforts of ORES, Fluvius and Sibelga, every effort is being made to restore gas to the affected region as soon as possible.
